Multiple Accidents Claim Seven Lives

No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead in two auto-car accidents on Lagos-Ibadan expressway and at the notorious Onipepeye stretch of the Sagamu – Abeokuta Road.

Five persons were confirmed dead and 15 others injured in the accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway while two persons were killed and nine others injured in the multiple auto accident at the notorious Onipepeye stretch of the Sagamu – Abeokuta Road.

The Lagos-Ibadan accident which occurred at about 4p.m., on Monday at Ogunmakin, near the Total gas station, involving a Mazda bus marked KSF477XK and a Mitsubishi car with registration number MUS639DK.

It was gathered that the accident caused gridlock on the expressway, as the vehicles involved were said to have blocked the road as it took the intervention of officials of Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to evacuate the vehicles and normalise traffic flow.

Confirming the accident, the FRSC Sector Commander Ayobami Omiyale said 20 people were involved in the mishap including four males and a female who were among the deceased.

He added that the injured were rushed to Ife-Oluwa Hospital and Ibadan Centre Hospital and attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking, urging drivers to exercise patience.

“Drivers are advised to be patient and avoid wrongful overtaking as they drive through construction areas,” he said.

However, the accident on the Sagamu – Abeokuta Road, on Tuesday, involved a Toyota Picnic car marked KSF 957BB and NISSAN Serena car with the inscription 250 GHA, occurred at 11:35am.

THEWILL gathered that two persons were killed and nine others injured in the accident while six other people were rescued unhurt from the crash.
