October 17, (THEWILL) – Jose Mourinho’s time at Roma looks set to come to an end this summer when his contract with the Italian club expires. The Portuguese manager has enjoyed a career renaissance since making a surprise return to Serie A, winning the inaugural Europa Conference League title before reaching the Europa League final last season.
However, Roma failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League during Mourinho’s tenure and have made a poor start to the current campaign, sitting 10th in the table after eight games. With the 60-year-old in the final year of his deal signed in 2021, he is unlikely to extend his stay with no ongoing negotiations for a new contract.
Roma’s form has improved significantly following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku on loan, but they still find themselves mid-table in the early stages of the season. Mourinho recently spoke of how compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo had given the Saudi Pro League “a different perspective” after his high-profile transfer to Al-Nassr, as THEWILL reported.
The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur manager was courted by Saudi club Al-Hilal last summer but opted to stay with Roma after their heartbreaking Europa League final defeat. Interest from the Gulf country is expected to resurface, with reports claiming an unnamed Saudi side is ready to offer him a staggering £104 million two-year contract.
Earlier this month, Mourinho stated his desire to one day manage in Saudi Arabia, saying: “I am focused on Roma and I will give my all until the last day I am here. Nobody knows the future, but I am convinced I will coach in Saudi Arabia one day.”
