Mourinho Is Head Coach For Italian Club, Roma

BEVERLY HILLS, May 04, (THEWILL) – After being unceremoniously fired from the English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, controversial manager, Jose Mourinho, has been announced as the new head coach for Serie A side Roma, ahead of the 2021-22 season on a three-year deal.
It comes on the heels of the club’s confirmation that current coach Paulo Fonseca was leaving his position as coach at the end of the 2020/2021 campaign.
THEWILL recalls that Mourinho was summarily sacked at Spurs on April 19 after a disappointing 17 months in charge with a final English Football League Carabao Cup fixture looming before them.
The Portuguese, who had endured a set of such dismissals at Chelsea and Manchester United said last week that he would wait for a club with the “right culture” to resume his managerial career once again.
It will mark a return to the Italian League for the coach who was at Serie A with Inter between 2008 and 2010, guiding them to a glorious treble on May 22, that year, for their first ever treble and Mourinho’s second Champions League trophy. The well-decorated manager also guided the Nerazzurri to two Scudettos during his time at San Siro.
Dan and Ryan Friedkin, Roma President and Vice-President, put out a joint statement that read: “We are thrilled and delighted to welcome Jose Mourinho into the Roma family.
“A great champion who has won trophies at every level, Jose will provide tremendous leadership and experience to our ambitious project.
“The appointment of Jose is a huge step in building a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the club.”
Currently, Roma sit seventh in Serie A, having last won the title back in 2000-01. It is the hope that Mourinho will bring some of those glorious days back.
