October 15, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho has slammed the timing of Vinicius Junior’s ban after he was sent off in the 1-0 win over Villarreal on Saturday in a 2026-27 La Liga encounter.
The Brazilian was given the marching orders for pulling the hair of an opponent, and he was handed a four-match ban on Wednesday by the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee
A two-game ban for violent conduct after pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair during the match, and another two games for his angry reaction to the decision.
As a result of the ban, Vinicius will miss the clash against Sevilla on Sunday, the Clasico against Barcelona on October 25, and matches against Racing Santander and Valencia.
The decision angered Jose Mourinho, who started Vinicius in the 4-3 win over Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday.

He said: “They had all day to announce the suspension, yet just as we arrived at the stadium, I was told I’m out for four league games,” the Brazilian star said.
“We’ve never had this [hair pulling] explained to us. Someone from La Liga and the referees’ association always comes to explain the rules, but never this specific point. It was a red card for me, simple as that… I’ve never been violent towards another player. I get hit quite a lot, yet the cards end up going to me.”

Mourinho questioned the committee’s decision to release the ruling on Wednesday before the clash against Roma.
He said: “The question for the committee is why they released the punishment at this moment.
“If you ask that question, it’s because you think it could affect him. If not, you wouldn’t ask me the question.
“I think you should ask the committee why they didn’t do it this morning, or tomorrow morning, and why they do it two hours before an important game for Real Madrid, without forgetting that Real Madrid are a Spanish club.”
Vinicius has endured a disappointing start to the season, scoring just once in all competitions for Real Madrid in eight matches.
He will return to action for Real Madrid in La Liga after the November international break, but he will be available for the Champions League matches against RB Leipzig on Oct. 21 and AEK on Nov. 4.
