Mother, Two-year-old Daughter Die As Building Collapse In Lagos

SAN FRANCISCO, July 22, (THEWILL) – Thirty-year-old Basirat, and her two-year-old baby died on Saturday as an uncompleted storey building collapsed at Meiran area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, LCDA of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The bungalow at No 7, Saidu Okeleji Street, Alaro, Meran, Abule Egba, caved in at about 11:48 am with sands and concrete block on its deck.

Eye witnesses say three people were trapped under the rubbles, witnesses said, but only one person was rescued from the debris.

The survivor, a five year-old-girl identified as Moyin, was moved to General Hospital Ikeja by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Rapid Response Squad and LASAMBUS were at the scene to offer rescue services.

The bodies of the mother and her daughter, Bisoye were recovered and moved to the Mortuary by the State Environmental Monitoring Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu,
said proper investigation would be conducted into the incident by the appropriate agencies.

His words, “Investigation conducted by the Agency at scene of the incident revealed that an existing uncompleted bungalow under construction with sands and concrete block seen on the deck suddenly caved in with three people trapped under the rubbles.

“But proper investigation would be conducted on the incident by the appropriate Agencies, he however advised owners and developers of buildings in the State to adhere to building codes and physical planning laws of the State so as to advert unnecessary loss of lives.”
