March 23, (THEWILL)- Lewis Morgan’s hat-trick fired New York Red Bulls to a thumping 4-0 victory over Inter Miami in Major League Soccer on Saturday. The Scottish striker terrorised his former club as the Red Bulls climbed to third in the Eastern Conference table.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring after just three minutes, latching onto Dante Vanzeir’s flick to slot home. He doubled the lead early in the second half, converting another Vanzeir through ball. Morgan’s third arrived on 70 minutes, finishing a counter-attack teed up by the Belgian striker.

Wikelman Carmona had made it 3-0 on 66 minutes, steering in from close range following Morgan’s mazy run and cutback to Vanzeir. Without the injured Lionel Messi, Miami offered little attacking threat as the Red Bulls dominated at the Red Bull Arena.

Sandro Schwarz’s side are now unbeaten in five home matches across all competitions. Morgan tops the MLS goal-scoring charts with five this season, while Vanzeir leads the assist rankings with five created. The defeat saw Miami temporarily slip from the Eastern Conference summit.

Despite Luis Suarez leading the line and Sergio Busquets on duty at the centre of the park, the visitors rarely threatened. The Uruguayan struggled to get involved until striking the crossbar late on with a deflected cross after earlier being booked for dissent. A VAR decision overruled a consolation Miami goal in the 78th minute.
