June 26, (THEWILL) – Borussia Mönchengladbach are leading the race to take Nigerian forward, Paul Onuachu, from England to the Bundesliga in Germany, following the expiration of the contract of key player Marcus Thuram.
Die Fohlen is actively seeking a new striker to provide competition for Allassane Pléa and serve as a replacement for the ageing Lars Stindl. Onuachu, who has attracted interest from other Bundesliga clubs like Union Berlin and VfB Stuttgart, is also keen on a move, motivated by his desire to play top-flight football after a challenging season with Southampton that ended in relegation.
The 29-year-old striker, standing at an impressive two meters tall, enjoyed a successful spell with Genk in the Belgian Pro League from 2019 to 2023, scoring 85 goals in 134 appearances. However, his much-anticipated move to Southampton did not pan out as expected, as the club struggled to leave the bottom of the table and Onuachu failed to find the back of the net in his 11 appearances, even though he only started five of those matches.
With the imminent departure of Marcus Thuram to Milan, Onuachu is poised to become a central figure in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s attacking lineup. His towering presence and aerial prowess will provide an added advantage for Die Fohlen to exploit the defences of other Bundesliga teams.
