September 03, (THEWILL) – OGC Nice earned their first victory under new manager Francesco Farioli on Sunday, comfortably overcoming a passive RC Strasbourg Alsace 2-0 at the Allianz Riviera with Terem Moffi winner.
Strasbourg offered little attacking threat and were largely passengers throughout the match. In contrast, Nice demonstrated their attacking ambition from the start, something that had been missing under former boss Lucien Favre last season. Strasbourg manager, Patrick Vieira, was making his return to the Allianz Riviera after managing Nice between 2018 and 2020, but it was not a happy homecoming.
Nice dominated the chances, with Sofiane Diop and Gaëtan Laborde both going close early on. The home side continued to exploit gaps in the Strasbourg defence, with Laborde and Terem Moffi both denied by superb saves from Matz Sels. Yet, Nice got the breakthrough they deserved just before half-time with Youcef Atal cutting inside and curling a left-footed effort into the far corner.
Strasbourg failed to mount any sort of response after the break. Moffi could have doubled Nice’s lead but saw his chip hit the post. Minutes later, he made no mistake after Jean-Clair Todibo put him through, hitting a strong left-foot shot to beat Sels and make it 2-0.
The win lifts Nice to 8th in Ligue 1, while Strasbourg remain 9th after a lifeless performance. After the international break, Nice will travel to Paris to face champions Paris Saint-Germain while Strasbourg are at home to Montpellier.
