January 23, (THEWILL) – Terem Moffi, the Super Eagles striker who is not part of the country’s squad at the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, snapped his goal drought in Ligue 1, but it was not enough to save Lorient from a 4-2 loss at Nantes.
Moffi had not scored since a 2-1 win against Lille last September when he played at the Beaujoire Stadium.
He did, however, end his dry spell with a nice finish that brought Lorient back into the game. Nantes were without key player Moses Simon owing to his inclusion in the Nigerian squad at AFCON, where he has had a spectacular tournament so far.
Yet, Nantes fared admirably without him, with Andrei Girotto putting them ahead in the 39th minute and Randal Kolo Muani doubling their lead eight minutes later.
In the 56th minute, Moffi equalised for Lorient with his third goal of the season. However, in the 69th minute, Osman Bukari restored Nantes’ two-goal lead.
Lorient’s Sambou Soumano then brought the score to 3-2 in the 85th minute, setting up a tense conclusion for the hosts. Willem Geubbels’ goal a minute after put an end to the chances of a dramatic comeback for Lorient.
Nantes moves up to ninth place in the rankings, while Lorient remains in 19th place, three points from safety.
