October 20, (THEWILL) – Eighteen airlines (local and international), are now designated to operate out of terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
List of the airlines, according to an official statement issued on Friday, by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), listed Air Peace, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Delta Airline, Lufthansa Airline, United Airlines, Kenya Airways, Ibom Air, Uganda Airlines, Turkish Airlines and African World Airline.
Others are Air Cote D’ivoire, Egypt Air, Asky Airlines, Rwanda Air, TAAG Angola Airlines, South African Airways and Royal Air Maroc.
MMIA, the main airport serving Lagos, opened its brand-new international terminal in March last year. However, it was barely being used, as airlines continue to operate at the airport’s old terminal.
Due to space constraints at MMIA’s new terminal, the majority of airlines, before now were shunning the new terminal in favour of the old Terminal 1.
This is reportedly due to the lack of apron space at Terminal 2, which is not wide enough to accommodate certain widebody aircraft like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, 777, 747 and Airbus A380.
However, the newly appointed Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has already formed a Taskforce to ensure effective migration from the old to the new terminal.
