March 20, (THEWILL) – Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is in danger of receiving a severe ban after the Football Association (FA) deemed the standard punishment for his dismissal in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United as “clearly insufficient.”

As THEWILL reported, Mitrovic scored the opening goal for Fulham before being sent off after attempting to grab referee Chris Kavanagh’s arm in the midst of a chaotic few minutes. Both Willian and head coach, Marco Silva, were also dismissed during this period, but it is Mitrovic’s conduct that has raised the most concern.

Fulham, Silva, and Mitrovic have all been charged by the FA for their roles in the incident. Fulham has been accused of failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion, while Silva has been charged with several misdemeanours. The FA statement alleges that Mitrovic’s language and/or behaviour following his dismissal were abusive, insulting, and/or threatening.

The FA’s decision to consider a harsher punishment for Mitrovic is an indication of the seriousness of the incident. The striker is likely to face a lengthy ban if found guilty, and the incident could have a significant impact on Fulham’s season.
