Milan Start Season In Style With 2-0 Win Over Bologna

August 21, (THEWILL) – AC Milan kicked off their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bologna on Monday night, as United States Men’s National Team star, Christian Pulisic, giving the away fans an inkling of what to expect of him this season.

Despite facing a tricky opening fixture away from home, Stefano Pioli’s men showed they mean business this season with a dazzling performance at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. The visitors wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead through Olivier Giroud in just the 11th minute. An inch-perfect cross from debutant Tijjani Reijnders allowed the French striker to open his account for the new campaign.

Milan refused to sit on their lead and doubled their advantage through Pulisic on 21 minutes. The American winger displayed his class by carrying the ball from inside his own half before lashing in a thunderous long-range strike. Bologna tried to mount a comeback after the break but found Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in inspired form. The Frenchman produced a string of fine saves to keep the hosts at bay as Milan looked to protect their two-goal lead.

While the visitors eased off in the second period, they still created chances to extend their advantage. Rafael Leao was unlucky not to grab a deserved goal after hitting the woodwork late on. The comprehensive win means Milan have now won their last five opening matches of a Serie A season under Stefano Pioli’s leadership.

The club will look to keep their perfect start going when Torino visit the San Siro next weekend. Bologna must improve quickly if they are to challenge for a top half finish this term. They face Juventus next.
