November 08, (THEWILL) – AC Milan pulled off a thrilling comeback victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. Trailing 1-0 after nine minutes at the San Siro, the Italian giants roared back to claim a vital 2-1 win and keep their Champions League knockout stage hopes alive.
Goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud in the space of just two minutes turned the game on its head after Milan Skriniar had given PSG an early lead. Milan knew that after picking up just one point from their opening three games in Group F, they had a tough game to win and PSG struck first when Skriniar headed in from a corner with only nine minutes on the clock.
Milan refused to panic and immediately responded through Leao’s acrobatic overhead kick just two minutes later. The Portuguese star showed incredible improvisation to volley home after Giroud’s initial shot was saved. The frenetic pace continued with both sides creating chances but Milan gradually took control. They got their reward right after halftime when Giroud powered home a bullet header in the 50th minute to complete the comeback.
PSG threw everything forward late on but could not find an equaliser, with substitute Kang-In Lee hitting the post in the 88th minute. The 2-1 win breathes new life into Milan’s UCL campaign and leaves Group F finely poised. Milan moved onto five points, just one behind second-placed PSG and two adrift of leaders Borussia Dortmund.
With two games left to play, qualification for the knockout stage is still very much within Milan’s grasp. After a poor run of domestic form, this was just the result Milan needed to ignite their season. Inspired by the brilliance of Leao and Giroud, this famous victory at the San Siro will go down as one of their most memorable European nights
