November 26, (THEWILL) – AC Milan returned to winning ways in Serie A, on Saturday, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fiorentina. The lone goal came via a Theo Hernandez penalty in first half stoppage time, earned by Hernandez and calmly slotted home by the French defender. The victory ends a four-match winless streak in the league for the hosts.

Milan were missing key attackers, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao, but still controlled much of the match. Winger Christian Pulisic made his return from injury and helped create chances, though clear openings were rare. Fiorentina threatened on the counter at times through Nicolas Gonzalez, but found goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, in fine form.

The breakthrough came right before the half-time whistle when Hernandez drew a foul in the area and stepped up to convert the penalty himself. Fiorentina manager, Vincenzo Italiano, made a halftime substitution and his side came out rejuvenated, peppering the Milan goal with Gonzalez chances but unable to find an equaliser.

As the match wound down, a moment was made for the history books as 15-year-old Francesco Camarda made his debut off the bench for Milan, becoming the youngest player ever to feature in Serie A. The youngster watched on as Maignan made a vital late stop to secure the three points for the home side.

The win will come as a relief for Milan as they re-strategise after the World Cup break while sitting third in the Serie A table on 26 points, five points behind League leaders and city rivals, Inter Milan.
