The victory ends a four-match winless streak in the league for the hosts.
Milan were missing key attackers, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao, but still controlled much of the match. The win will come as a relief for Milan as they re-strategise after the World Cup break while sitting third in the Serie A table on 26 points, five points behind League leaders and city rivals, Inter Milan.
