July 10, (THEWILL) – Argentina booked their place in the Copa America final after defeating Canada 2-0 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The reigning world champions dominated from the start, with Julian Alvarez opening the scoring in the first half. Lionel Messi added a second goal early in the second half to seal the victory.
Canada, making their debut appearance in the tournament, had surprised many by reaching the semi-finals. However, they were unable to match Argentina’s quality on the night. The Canadians did have a chance to equalise just before half-time, with Jonathan David forcing a fine save from Emiliano Martinez.
Argentina’s win extends their unbeaten run in the tournament and puts them in a position to defend their Copa América title. They will face either Uruguay or Colombia in the final. For Canada, the tournament represents a significant achievement despite the semi-final exit.
