February 21, (THEWILL) – The nominees for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards have been revealed, with six nominees shortlisted in each of the seven categories.
The Laureus Awards is an annual event that acknowledges and celebrates the hard work and achievements of athletes throughout the year. Among the categories are Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and Team of the Year, among others.
Notably, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, both of PSG, were nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. Messi led Argentina to their third World Cup title, while Mbappé helped his country reach the World Cup final while scoring a hat-trick to earn himself the Golden Boot as the leading goalscorer of the tournament.
Rafa Nadal, Stephen Curry, and Max Verstappen are among other nominees for the coveted title. Nadal shared an Instagram post where he was pleased with the honour of another nomination but was quick to state who he believed deserved to win it.
He wrote: “An honour to be nominated again to the Laureus Sportsman of the year… but… this year… let’s go Messi, you deserve it.”
