October 21, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain defeated Ajaccio 3-0 in Ligue 1 on Friday, thanks to an outstanding tag-team effort from Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Due to Neymar’s suspension, the defending champions were forced to rely on their forward line’s other two stars to push PSG six points clear at the top. And, expectedly, both forwards did it elegantly.
Even after scoring the game’s first goal in the 24th minute, Mbappe, who recently called allegations of him wanting to quit the club “completely false” appeared dissatisfied for much of the game cutting the picture of one who wanted to score more.
Messi set him up for that first goal, but he missed several opportunities to get a lot more and perhaps even a hattrick. Then, Mbappe and Messi expertly combined again for the latter to make it 2-0 before the long-time Real Madrid target added more gloss with his second.
In their next matches, PSG will host Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League while Ajaccio are on the road against Auxerre in Ligue 1.
