April 14, (THEWILL) – The electric record crowd of over 72,000 at Arrowhead Stadium bore witness to a thrilling encounter, as Inter Miami emerged victorious over Sporting Kansas City with a hard-fought 3-2 win.
The Herons’ talisman, Lionel Messi, was instrumental in the triumph, grabbing a goal and an assist to inspire his side to their first victory since March 16.
Both teams were eager to get things going, as Kansas City were aiming to pick up their second home win while the Herons were trying to put an end to a winless run of five games. Sporting KC drew first blood, with Erik Thommy putting the home side ahead in the 6th minute.
However, Inter Miami’s quick response saw Messi provide a defence-splitting pass for Diego Gomez to level the scores. The second half was a rollercoaster ride, as Messi himself put the visitors in front with a thunderous strike from outside the box.
Thommy then equalised for Sporting KC, but the Herons had one more trick up their sleeve. Luis Suarez pounced on a low cross from Gomez to net the winner for Inter Miami, capping off a memorable victory for the Florida-based club.
This triumph will undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost for Inter Miami, who have struggled to find their form in recent weeks. The performance of Messi, coupled with the team’s resilient display, will no doubt give the Herons the confidence they need to push on and mount a challenge in the remainder of the season.
