Messi Goal, Assist Brace Fires Inter Miami To Beat New England

April 28, (THEWILL) – Lionel Messi produced a masterful display, scoring twice and providing an assist as Inter Miami cruised to a 4-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Sunday morning. The 35-year-old rolled back the years with a virtuoso performance in front of a record 65,612 crowd at Gillette Stadium.

Despite falling behind after just 37 seconds to Tomas Chancalay’s opener, Messi inspired an impressive comeback for the Eastern Conference leaders. He equalised just past the half-hour mark, coolly slotting home after being played through by Robert Taylor. The talismanic Argentine then put Miami ahead on 67 minutes with another composed finish after a defence-splitting pass from Sergio Busquets.

Still, Messi was not done there, playing a pivotal role in Miami’s two late goals that put a gloss on the scoreline. His stinging shot was parried by Henrich Ravas into the path of Benjamin Cremaschi who tapped home the rebound in the 83rd minute. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner then teed up Luis Suarez for a curling finish five minutes later.

The victory maintains Miami’s three-point advantage over Supporters’ Shield holders FC Cincinnati at the Eastern Conference summit. Messi has now recorded a goal involvement in 10 consecutive matches for the seventh time in his illustrious career.
