August 10, (THEWILL) – After some extended negotiations, former Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has finally agreed a contract with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and is expected in the French capital shortly to put pen to paper on the deal.

Messi’s shocking departure from Camp Nou was confirmed last week and the Argentine addressed a limited Press Conference inside Camp Nou where he did not deny speaking to PSG about a contract but acknowledged that nothing was permanent yet.

Those talks have now advanced even to the point of final details in the last few days. The sorting out of issues like image rights which delayed the conclusion of the negotiations have been resolved and a total agreement has been reached.

The parties involved in the negotiations, PSG and Messi’s representatives and the player, agreed to a two-year contract, with the option for a third season, based on mutually agreeable terms from the first two years.

That conclusive basis means Messi is expected to jet off to Paris to sign the agreement on Tuesday afternoon, with a press conference scheduled on Wednesday to present Messi as the newest PSG player for the power house that Mauricio Pochettino is building.

Ahead of what is seen as a done deal, a number of fans in Paris spent the night at local airports in the hope of seeing Messi land in person. Likewise, a crowd has started to gather at El Prat Airport to catch one last glimpse of the Argentine in Barcelona before he leaves.

Messi had turned his focus to securing his future when it became clear there was no way back into the La Blaugrana squad due to La Liga restrictions. But, he gave his representatives time to finalise all the details of what is obviously an enormous contract with the French giants.

The PSG deal is worth an enormous €40m per season making the football legend the highest paid in the club, just above what Neymar earns at Parc des Princes.
