May 3, (THEWILL) – Manchester City stars, Phil Foden and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, have been voted the 2024 Footballers of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association. The talented duo received the prestigious honours after stellar campaigns for their respective teams.
Foden claimed 42% of the votes to be crowned Men’s Footballer of the Year, fending off Arsenal’s Declan Rice and teammate Rodri. The 23-year-old England international hailed his City colleagues’ influence, saying: “I’m very, very happy to receive this award but I could not have done it without the help of my teammates. We have a very special squad of players at City, and I’m privileged to be a part of that group.”
Jamaican striker Shaw pipped Chelsea’s Lauren James to the Women’s award after smashing her own goalscoring record with 21 strikes before injury struck. “I want to also thank all of my teammates. They provide me with the chances to score goals,” the prolific 27-year-old said, adding: “I could not have won this award without them.”
The City pair’s double marks only the second occasion the club has swept both main Writer’s prizes after Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris in 2019. Their individual recognition underlines Manchester City’s exceptional standards across the men’s and women’s teams.
As Foden and Shaw aim to cap their glittering individual seasons with team silverware, their peers have emphatically voted them the cream of English football’s crop in 2024.
