SAN FRANCISCO, January 19, (THEWILL) – Melinda Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, BMGF, has commended the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for his leadership in improving child health.
Mrs. Gates, gave this assessment when she visited Kaduna to assess the progress on routine immunisation.
“Your commitment to data collection is really admirable. You can’t make decisions without data. We are pleased to help you with that,” she said, lauding the Kaduna State’s drive to improve the range and credibility of data collection.
She assured the governor that the Gates Foundation has a joint interest with the Kaduna State Government to reduce infant mortality adding that the BMGF is impressed by the scale of the polio surveillance mounted by the Kaduna State Government.
Speaking further on the healthcare segment of the partnership between her foundation and Kaduna State, Mrs. Gates said that the primary health centres will continue to be supported so that they can offer a broad range of services to patients.
Mrs. Gates later met with the wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja.
She paid a learning visit to he seat of power and was received by Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, Senator Binta Masi- Garuba; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki; Minister for Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole; and, the Chairman Senate Committee on Health, Senator Lanre Tejuoso.
Others are wife of the Imo State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha; wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun; amongst others.
