BEVERLY HILLS, April 10, (THEWILL) – French striker Antoine Griezmann of La Liga heavyweights Barcelona, celebrated a unique and significant hattrick, when his new baby arrived with the same birthday as his first two children, an occurrence put at an eye-watering odds of 133,000-1.
The second daughter joins other April 8 children, five-year-old sister, Mia, and two-year-old brother, Amaro, in the new family of five. Alba, as she was christened, is Griezmann’s first Nou baby, the French World Cup winner’s first baby after he completed his £107 million move to Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid in July last year.
Alba’s arrival was announced on social media in a post by Griezmann that simply said: “Alba Griezmann April 8, 2021 at 10:24 a.m” – followed by a heart emoticon.
Soon after, his club tweeted their congratulations, while Griezmann’s wife, Erika Choperena, posted birthday wishes to the couple’s other two kids. Choperena, a qualified child psychologist, posted on Instagram: “Today it has been 2 and 5 years since you arrived.
“You revolutionized our world to make us grow, learn and be better. Mom and Dad can’t be more proud of what you have made us build.
“We want you infinite, crazy and free!”
Due to the occasion, Griezmann understandably missed Thursday training with his La Blaugrana teammates, who were preparing for the all-important El Clasico against Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on Saturday, with significant implications for the title race.
The Frenchman remains under pressure securing and keeping his place in the starting lineup under coach Ronald Koeman. He has had a decent run of games under his belt and has scored eight while assisting in six goals in the 24 matches he has played so far this season.
If Koeman plays two upfront in attack, there is a possibility that the new father may drop to the bench in favour of an in-form Ousmane Dembele pairing with Lionel Messi for the dual-pronged attack-line.
La Blaugrana are second in La Liga, only one point behind Griezmann’s old club and league leaders Atletico and two above their arch rivals and third-placed Real.
