March 16, (THEWILL) – Russian tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, overcame injury to advance to the semi-finals of the Indian Wells tournament after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3 7-5.
Despite rolling his ankle in a previous match, Medvedev showed no signs of discomfort during his most recent game. However, Medvedev’s injury scare came in the second set when he fell behind the baseline and cut his thumb, requiring a medical timeout.
In the final set, Fokina had three chances to break, but Medvedev held firm, ultimately winning the match. Medvedev is set to face Frances Tiafoe in the next round, who recently defeated Englishman Cameron Norrie.
The other quarter-finals will feature Carlos Alcaraz against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner against defending champion Taylor Fritz. Alcaraz has the opportunity to retake the world number one ranking if he wins the tournament, although he currently has a 0-3 record against Auger-Aliassime.
