BEVERLY HILLS, December 03, (THEWILL) – The Chairman Emeritus and founder of the DAAR Communications, owner of AIT and Ray Power FM, Chief Raymond Dokpesi has admitted receiving N2.1 billion naira from the $2 billion budgeted for arms to fight the Boko Haram. The funds were paid through the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) under the embattled retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, who is being investigated for the misappropriation of the arms money.

Dokpesi, who was released on bail from the custody of the EFCC on Wednesday night, is one of the suspects being investigated by authorities over the siphoning of the funds.

Dokpesi told EFCC investigators that the money was paid to him for election campaigns and publicity for the last general elections where his party, the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost.

DAAR Communications in a follow up statement also said the businessman told the EFCC that the N2.1 billion he collected from Dasuki was payment “for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 General Elections.”

“He made his statement on the various media exposures and campaign transactions which were dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship,” the company said.

But critics have questioned the payments, asking when the NSA became the PDP’s treasurer. “This just shows how corruption was in bed with the Goodluck Jonathan government,” one commentator said in a Facebook post Thursday.
