November 11, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain moved back to the top of the Ligue 1 table after Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick gave them a 3-0 victory over Reims on Saturday. The French champions knew that three points at Stade Auguste Delaune would see them overtake Nice, who could only manage a draw on Friday night.
It took just three minutes for Mbappe to put the visitors in front, cushioning home Ousmane Dembele’s far-post cross with an exquisite volley. Reims responded brightly and were unlucky to see a Junya Ito effort ruled out for offside.
PSG looked more composed after the break, however, and doubled their advantage just after the hour mark through Mbappe, who tapped home at the back post after being picked out by Carlos Soler’s cross. The World Cup winner then sealed his hat-trick late on to round off a comfortable victory, tucking away Bradley Barcola’s pulled back.
The win sees PSG return to the Ligue 1 summit on goal difference after 10 games. Luis Enrique’s side responded well after defeat in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, with Mbappe’s clinical finishing the difference against a spirited Reims outfit.
PSG will now turn their attention to a home clash with Monaco after the international break. While they lead in France, Enrique knows his team must improve on recent European displays if they are to finally realise their UCL dream this season.
