Mauritius To Contest In 2023 AFCON Qualifiers After Winning Case Against Sao Tome And Principe

May 17, (THEWILL) – Samson Adamu, the Director of Competitions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has confirmed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that Mauritius has won a case it filed against Sao Tome and Principe.

The case was in regards to their preliminary qualifying fixture for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and their victory means that Mauritius will thus, join the combatants in Group A of the qualification series beginning next month.

Mauritius had lodged a protest against Sao Tome and Principe, which had won their preliminary qualifying match, claiming that one of its players, who scored the only goal of the tie, had tested positive for COVID-19 and won the case it brought before the CAF Disciplinary Committee.

Mauritius now joins Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau in Group A of the six-match phase, which ends in March next year. Based on the reworked fixtures, on Thursday, June 9, Nigeria will face Sierra Leone in Abuja, followed by Mauritius on Monday, June 13.
