Martinelli Takes Arsenal Five Points Clear After 1-0 Defeat Of Leicester

February 25, (THEWILL) – Arsenal took a significant step towards the English Premier League title with a 1-0 win over Leicester on Saturday, that temporarily took the Gunners five points clear at the top of the League.

The visitors, with Leandro Trossard in place of Eddie Nketiah in the forward lineup, dominated the game from the start, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard both coming close in the opening minutes.

Despite their best efforts, Arsenal was unable to create a clear-cut chance for the first quarter of the game, thanks to a strong defence from Leicester. The visitors thought they had broken the deadlock when Trossard fired in from the edge of the box, but VAR spotted a foul in the build-up, and the goal was chalked off. A goal from Kelechi Iheanacho was also disallowed not long after.

Arsenal finally found the breakthrough they were looking for a minute after the break when Gabriel Martinelli slid the ball into the far corner after being played in by Trossard. Although the visitors pushed hard to kill off the game with a second goal, they were unable to find the finishing touch.

Leicester had a brief spell of possession, but they failed to take another shot before the end of the match, allowing Arsenal to secure the win. The Gunners will host Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, while Leicester will face Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round a day earlier.
