July 25, (THEWILL) – Marseille have made a significant addition to its attacking force with the signing of 25-year-old Senegalese international, Ismaila Sarr.
The winger’s arrival follows closely on the heels of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, marking another major reinforcement for the French club’s front line. While official confirmation from Marseille is yet to be released, reports monitored by THEWILL indicate that Sarr has inked a five-year contract following a reported €13 million deal. Sarr’s return to French football comes after successful stints at Metz and Rennes, followed by a prolific spell in England with Watford, where he earned accolades and caught the attention across Europe.
During his tenure at Watford, Sarr was a standout performer, notching an impressive 34 goals and 24 assists in 131 appearances, earning him the club’s Player of the Season award for the 2020/2021 campaign. His exceptional form also played a crucial role in helping Watford secure promotion back to the English top flight. With a career that has seen him grow in stature both at the domestic and international levels, Sarr is expected to add depth and attacking prowess to Marseille’s squad.
Having already experienced success on the international stage with Senegal, winning the Africa Cup of Nations, Sarr’s wealth of experience and impressive track record make him a valuable addition to Marseille’s squad. Yet, his move to Marseille, alongside the free transfer signing of Aubameyang, has raised questions about the future of Alexis Sanchez, whose contract with the club expired at the end of June.
The club’s busy summer transfer window has also seen the arrivals of defender Renan Lodi and central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, both recruited from Atletico Madrid, exemplifying Marseille’s ambitions to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
