SAN FRANCISCO, January 04, (THEWILL) – Popular English football club, Liverpool, has paid tribute to Gerry Marsden, after the singer, who popularized the club’s anthem, “You’ll never walk Alone”, died at the age of 78.
“It is with such great sadness that we hear of Gerry Marsden’s passing,” Liverpool wrote on their Twitter account.
“Gerry’s words will live on forever with us. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
THEWILL writes that Marsden, who was born in Liverpool, made a 1960s hit with his cover of the Rodgers and Hammerstein song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, which was originally featured in their musical Carousel.
Liverpool fans adopted ‘The Gerry And The Peacemakers’ version of the song and it became a popular football anthem. It is still sung by Anfield supporters before and during matches.
