February 09, (THEWILL) – Sadio Mane is believed to have told his agents that if Real Madrid or Barcelona approached him this summer, he would be happy to leave Liverpool.
The striker joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 and has had a stellar career at Anfield, winning the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup. He is ready to call time on his Liverpool career if one of La Liga’s giants wants him following his AFCON victory with Senegal.
Mane wants to prove that he is the best African footballer of all time, and believes that a move to Spain would help him do so after achieving so much at Liverpool.
Current talks between Mane and Liverpool over a new contract are at an early stage – his ongoing contract agreement expires in 2023 – and that new addition Luis Diaz plays in the same position as the Senegalese.
Mane had already piqued Real Madrid’s interest, with Zinedine Zidane keen to pursue him when he scored against them in the 2018 Champions League final. The French tactician, on the other hand, left soon after that victory, leaving the pursuit of Mane in the cold.
Meanwhile, important Barcelona players are interested in bringing Mane to the club, but they may not have the financial means to do so.
The Blaugrana were active in the January transfer window, bringing in Ferran Torres for €55 million and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer, as well as Dani Alves and Adama Traore.
