Manchester United Confirm Cavani and Traore Signings

BEVERLY HILLS, October 05, (THEWILL) – In a flurry of late activity in the transfer window, THEWILL can report that Manchester United, has done some business to get the signatures of ex-Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, the Uruguayan and Amad Diallo Traore, the Ivorian.

The 33-year-old Cavani will provide support for the likes of Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo in United’s attack. United confirmed the signing of the striker on a free transfer. The Uruguayan had been without a club since being released by PSG before the conclusion of their Champions League campaign in the summer.

He had previously been linked to other European football clubs with Inter Milan and Benfica among the names mentioned. But, until now, he had failed to find the side open to his wage demands which were believed to be around £210,000 per week. Part of the deal included a £10 million payment made out to his agent.

United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer had been in the market all through the transfer window shopping for the services of a senior striker to offer support to his forwards Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as the loan signing of Odion Ighalo only extended until January of next year. Also, Cavani’s inclusion in the Old Trafford squad, means he will have an opportunity to lock horns with his former club PSG in the early phases of the Champions League with both teams in the same group.

Though United missed out on early favourite target Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund and a proposed deal to get Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele fell through, they have been able to make some progress getting signatures in. Alex Telles arrived from Porto and Facundo Pellistri completed a move from Penarol.

Another successful deal confirmed today by United was the signing of the 18-year-old Atalanta winger, the Ivorian Amad Diallo Traore after speculation of the prospect was swirling around the transfer window for weeks. Solskjaer considered this an alternative should the deal to get Sancho not materialise. At some point, it appeared as if Parma had seized the chance to sign Traore but that deal collapsed and United swooped in to get their man.

The fee for the teenager, whom THEWILL recognise as well regarded in Italy, was not disclosed but it is believed that the services of one of the brightest talents in Serie A was acquired for about £30 million with the possibility that the fee could raise significantly higher at the activation of certain clauses contained in the contract.

As soon as the details around issues like work permit and visa are sorted, Traore will join his new teammates in Manchester.
