March 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester United could be in for a change of ownership as prospective buyers prepare to meet with the club this week.
Two public bidders, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani from Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe from INEOS, are set to discuss the possibility of a takeover. Although other parties are still in the running, they remain undisclosed.
Bidders were expected to provide details and proof of funds to Raine Group, the investment banking firm in charge of the process, by 17 February. Sheikh Jassim’s representatives are due to meet with United on Thursday, with Ratcliffe and the INEOS contingent arriving the following day for their own talks.
The Glazer family announced their intention to explore “strategic alternatives”, including a full takeover, in November 2022. United’s valuation is believed to be at least £6bn, considerably higher than the amount Chelsea was sold for last year. However, no bid had reached that valuation as of early March.
