Man Utd Starlet Garnacho Wins Goal Of The Season For Stunning Overhead Kick

May 26, (THEWILL)- Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has been awarded the English Premier League Goal of the Season accolade for his stunning bicycle kick against Everton. The young Argentine forward’s acrobatic effort in United’s 3-0 victory at Goodison Park in November immediately drew comparisons to Wayne Rooney’s iconic overhead kick against Manchester City in 2011.

Garnacho’s moment of magic arrived in the 67th minute, as he met a cross with an audacious overhead kick that left Jordan Pickford helpless in the Everton goal. The 18-year-old celebrated his sensational strike by replicating Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration, a nod to the Portuguese superstar’s own penchant for scoring spectacular overhead kicks.

In a post-match interview, a stunned Garnacho admitted: “I can’t believe it to be honest. I didn’t see how I scored. I just listened to the crowd and said, ‘Oh my god’.” His goal beat out exceptional efforts from teammates Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo, as well as strikes from rivals such as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Kaoru Mitoma and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Garnacho’s individual recognition comes on the heels of United’s FA Cup triumph over city rivals Manchester City on Saturday. The young Argentine opened the scoring at Wembley, capitalising on a defensive lapse to tap in the opener before Mainoo doubled the lead in a 2-1 victory that secured Erik ten Hag’s second trophy at Old Trafford.

Despite the FA Cup success, speculation persists surrounding Ten Hag’s future, with reports suggesting United could part ways with the Dutch manager regardless of the Wembley result.
