May 12, (THEWILL) – Billionaire, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are reportedly closing in on becoming the preferred bidders for Manchester United, as the sale of the football club heats up.
Reports monitored by THEWILL claim that Ratcliffe’s offer is valued higher than Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s world-record £5bn bid. However, this is due to Ratcliffe’s interest in a controlling stake, with the Glazer family potentially staying on at the club.
The sale of Manchester United has been handled by the Raine Group, who have not yet announced a preferred bidder. But, rumours suggest that Ratcliffe is leading the race and could be named as the preferred bidder in the coming days. Nine Two Foundation, representing Sheikh Jassim’s bid, believes that the Glazers never intended to sell the club entirely.
This news comes after Man Utd fans recently staged a protest against the Glazers’ ownership. The fans want the Glazers to sell the club entirely, while Raine Group have also received offers from bidders looking to become minority investors in the Old Trafford club.
