February 02, (THEWILL) – Manchester United secured their place in the EFL Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Holding a 3-0 aggregate lead from the first leg, United struggled to capitalize on their chances but finally broke the deadlock when Anthony Martial marked his return from injury with a goal after 73 minutes.

The game saw few opportunities for either side until a triple change at the hour mark, which sparked life into the hosts and saw the deadlock finally broken. Wout Weghorst hit the post in the first half and Forest had a golden opportunity before the break, but their attempt was blocked by a teammate.

On the hour mark, Alejandro Garnacho tested Wayne Hennessey, at the near post before the triple change brought in Jadon Sancho, Martial, and Marcus Rashford. Martial’s goal was followed by a second from Fred, who poked home from close range.

The 5-0 aggregate victory sets up a date with Newcastle United on February 26th at Wembley Stadium in London. Both teams are in good form and look likely to continue their impressive runs until their trip to the capital. United’s dominance over the two legs gives their fans renewed confidence in their chances of winning the EFL Cup final.
