August 30, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have completed the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. The Uruguay international finalised his move to Old Trafford on Friday, ending a lengthy transfer process.
United will pay PSG an initial fee of £42.2 million for Ugarte, with potential add-ons of £8.4 million. The 23-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the English Premier League club. His arrival follows Scott McTominay’s departure to Napoli.
Ugarte spent just one season with PSG after joining from Sporting CP in 2023. He made 37 appearances for the French side, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. The defensive midfielder is known for his tackling ability and energy in the centre of the pitch.
United Manager, Erik ten Hag, identified Ugarte as a top target in June. After two months of negotiations, an agreement was reached between the clubs on Monday. Ugarte becomes United’s fifth summer signing, joining Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Sekou Kone as new arrivals.
The Uruguayan will be only the third player from his country to represent Manchester United, following strikers Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani. Ugarte began his professional career with Fenix in Uruguay before spells at Famalicao and Sporting in Portugal prior to joining PSG.
