Man City’s Foden Crowned EPL Player Of The Season

May 18, (THEWILL) – The English Premier League has announced that Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been voted the Player of the Season for the 2023/2024 campaign. Foden’s outstanding performances, which included 17 goals and 8 assists in 34 league appearances, played a pivotal role in City’s pursuit of an unprecedented fourth consecutive EPL title.

Foden’s versatility has been a major asset for Pep Guardiola’s side, as he has excelled in both central and wide positions. With 25 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, the young Englishman has proven himself to be one of the most influential players in the league. Should City secure the title on the final day, Foden will become the youngest player to have won six EPL trophies.

Reacting to his win, Foden stated: “I am extremely proud to have been named the Premier League’s Player of the Season. It is an honour to have been nominated alongside so many other exceptional players who have had remarkable seasons.” He added, “I’ve been very satisfied with my performances this season and thrilled to have contributed with goals and assists throughout the campaign.”

Foden topped an eight-man shortlist that included fellow City teammate Erling Haaland, as well as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. This marks the fift consecutive year that a Manchester City player has claimed the prestigious award, following in the footsteps of Ruben Dias, Haaland, and two-time winner Kevin De Bruyne.

The last player from outside Manchester City to win the accolade was Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in the 2018/2019 season. Foden’s recognition as EPL Player of the Season adds to his growing list of accolades, having recently been named the Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year as well.
