May 13, (THEWILL) – On the tenth anniversary of his spectacular title-winning strike against Queens Park Rangers, Manchester City unveiled a statue of club star, Sergio Aguero.

Aguero left Manchester City last summer as the club’s all-time leading striker, having scored 260 goals in a decade there, etching his name in the club’s and the English Premier League’s records.

His most memorable and vital goal came against Queens Park Rangers on May 13, 2012, when he scored a last-ditch winner to give the Cityzens their first Premier League title.

Man City placed a statue of the striker outside the Etihad Stadium to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the goal and to pay tribute to a club legend. The statue, made up of thousands of welded galvanised steel pieces, has immortalised Aguero’s shirt-waving celebration after that QPR goal.

“Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself ten years ago is very moving,” Aguero stated upon the unveiling.

“In those ten years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world.”

“I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special.”

On his part, sculptor Scott, added: “It has been an honour to work on a project that means so much to Manchester City fans around the world in celebration of such an important player in the life of this football club.”

“I was under no illusions about how important this was to the Club, to the fans, to Sergio himself and I hope that this statue brings joy and happiness to all who see it.”

Outside the stadium, Aguero’s statue will join those of David Silva and Vincent Kompany that already adorn the Etihad stadium.
