January 31, (THEWILL) – Manchester City has completed the five-and-a-half-year transfer of Argentina forward Julian Alvarez from River Plate. He will be at River at least until July 2022.
City beat out competition from Europe’s premier clubs to sign Alvarez earlier this month. Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, revealed in a club statement that the Premier League champions had their sights on Alvarez for some time.
“Julian is a player we have monitored for some time,” Begiristain said. “He is capable of operating in a number of attacking roles, and we firmly believe he’s one of the best young attacking players in South America.
“I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player.”
