BEVERLY HILLS, October 03, (THEWILL) – Manchester City’s woeful start to the 2020/2021 English Premier League season continued on Saturday as they were held to a lone goal draw by the league’s impressive new boys Leeds United. Pep Guardiola’s side were made to shave off two points and settle for a shared point because they were not at their clinical best. This is coming after they endured a 5-2 hammering at home to Leicester City just last weekend.
Although the blue side of Manchester made a blistering start to the game at Elland Road with Raheem Sterling’s sublime effort, Leeds player Rodrigo was allowed to capitalise on goalkeeper Ederson’s error to score his first goal for the hosts and help them secure a deserving 1-1 premier league draw against their more illustrious opponents.
In a pulsating contest, the final league game for the day saw both sides exchange brilliant footwork for brilliant footwork, with Leeds growing in confidence as the game wore on. Rodrigo, Leeds record signing, opened his account for the promoted side soon after coming in as a substitute. When Ederson made a mess of his attempt to deal with a corner, the Leeds man was there to capitalise and score.
As the Whites pressed on in their impressive start to life in the top tier, Rodrigo could have sealed the win for them. The pressure he kept on the defence opened opportunities for him but he ended up striking the crossbar twice and was unfortunate neither ended up inside the net. The men from the Etihad would feel hard done as their appeals for a late penalty for a rough challenge on Sterling inside the box fell on deaf ears.
In the end, the contest which many had billed as a master versus apprentice showdown for the two managers came to an end with both sides having to settle for a point apiece.
THEWILL believes, of the two, Leeds will be the happier. They sit comfortably in the fifth position with seven points after four games. The Man City team will have to do some introspection. They racked up 23 shots only two of which were on target. One of them was Sterling’s goal.
THEWILL holds that if they are to climb up the table and be the title contenders pundits see them as they will need to start converting those shots into goals. Fast.
