Man City Overcome Resilient Club Brugge 4-1 At The Etihad

GTBCO FOOD DRINL
November 04, (THEWILL) – Manchester City had to fight hard for their victory, but goals from Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus got them to within one point of Champions League last-16 qualification.
This was not Pep Guardiola’s finest City team, but there are not many better in Europe, so perhaps this is the season when they finally win the Champions League trophy that has escaped them for far longer than it should have.
City pinned Brugge back inside their own half from the start, and while they failed to create many chances, it was no surprise when they took the lead on 15 minutes, Joao Cancelo’s superb, low cross finding Foden for a tap-in.
But, Brugge levelled two minutes later, with Charles De Ketelaere’s cross striking Bernardo Silva and John Stones on its way past Ederson, and the teams went into halftime level.
However, it was clear early on after the interval that Brugge had exhausted the most of their energy in the first half, and additional City goals appeared to be a certain conclusion.
City topped their goals on 54, 72, and 90 minutes, with Mahrez scoring from close range, Sterling tapping in following superb work from Foden and Ilkay Gundogan, and Gabriel Jesus striking from the edge of the box to complete the romp.
