Man City Move To Retain Unsettled Alvarez With New Contract

February 28, (THEWILL) – Manchester City have offered Julian Alvarez a new contract, but the striker is reportedly unsure about the playing time he will get at the Etihad Stadium.

The 23-year-old has been playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland for most of the 2022/2023 season, despite his impressive performance for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup and with City when given the opportunity to play at the club level.

Alvarez has made only six English Premier League starts since joining City from River Plate last summer, but has managed to score five goals in his 707 minutes of league football in City colours.

Despite his limited playing time, City have offered him a new five-year deal with a significantly improved financial package. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in Alvarez’s situation, but City have no intention of letting go of one of their prized young assets.

The Etihad side wants Alvarez to be happy, which has influenced their decision to offer him a new contract even when his existing deal runs until 2027. The striker will hope to get a second FA Cup start of the season in City’s fifth-round clash with Championship side Bristol City on Wednesday evening.
