SAN FRANCISCO, March 19, (THEWILL) – Newly-freed captives from Bama in Borno State, numbering well over 200, including women and children, have been moved to a separate camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The decision to separate the newly-freed Boko Haram captives from the main IDPs already camped in the metropolis by the military who rescued them and brought them into Maiduguri in 10 military vehicles, is to enable the authorities screen and observe them to be sure that fleeing insurgents do not infiltrate the IDPs camp.
The newly-freed captives had been rejected from being settled among the old IDPs because of last week’s experience when bombs were discovered to have been buried in the IDP camp by a fleeing insurgent who disguised as one of the IDPs.
The new development came amid shocking revelations that the fleeing insurgents in Bama actually killed their many of their wives to prevent them from being captured and married to those they consider unbelievers.
Some of the freed captives report that the insurgents who fled Bama for Gwoza slaughtered almost all their wives before they fled.
According to one of the freed captives, many of the Boko Haram gunmen had their wives killed so that unbelievers will not remarry them after they might have been killed in the anticipated fierce battle between them and the military.
Giving a graphic detail of the gruesome killings, a freed captive disclosed that the insurgents said: “We will not spare anyone of you because if unbelievers marry you when we get to heaven, there is no way we can meet again; so we do this so that we can meet in heaven.
“Some of their women pleaded with them but they refuse and slaughtered them, we were seen as unbelievers because we didn’t accept their faith so were spared the orgies.
“It was as if heaven will fall, many lost their lives but we were kept in some houses so many things happened, my husband and children were killed but all I could remember is that yesterday we were bought to Maiduguri by military who saved us from the insurgents.”
