October 25, (THEWILL) – Although Riyad Mahrez, missed another penalty and Erling Haaland, was restrained on his return to Borussia Dortmund, in a 0-0 draw, Manchester City secured their place in the next round of the UEFA Champions League as Group G winners.
On Tuesday, Pep Guardiola’s side had a few strokes of luck and also missed a wonderful opportunity to win at Signal Iduna Park, but they always knew a point would be enough to finish at the top of their group.
Finding that point against Dortmund did not always seem reachable. Karim Adeyemi, was too much for City to handle before halftime with the young forward setting up teammates three times, while also missing a clear opportunity of his own. At every turn, it appeared City was on the brink of conceding.
After Haaland’s departure at halftime, the opposition appeared more promising, but had the Norwegian still been in the game, he would have taken the penalty that Mahrez took and, for the second consecutive game, failed to score. In the end, City had done enough to make it to the top of the group.
The next fixture for the Bundesliga side will be against Eintracht Frankfurt, on the road in the Bundesliga on Saturday. On the same day, City will be playing away to Leicester City, in the Premier League.
