Maguire to Stay At Man Utd Despite Limited Playing Time

January 18, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has announced that they will not allow club captain, Harry Maguire, to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.
Maguire, who became the most expensive defender in the world when United paid Leicester £80m for his services in 2019, has lost his place in the starting lineup to Lisandro Martinez and has seen Luke Shaw preferred in central defence when Martinez was not available.

Despite Maguire’s lack of playing time, United manager, Erik ten Hag, believes he has a significant role to play between now and the end of the season. The Red Devils, who defeated Manchester City 2-1 over the weekend, are seen as favorites to win the Carabao Cup after reaching the semi-finals. They also face a two-legged Europa League knockout round play-off with Barcelona in February, in addition to their English Premier League duties.
Maguire has faced criticism for his performances amid the team’s ongoing struggles, but Ten Hag believes he will be needed as United looks to compete in multiple competitions. Maguire’s long-term future at the club remains uncertain despite Gareth Southgate standing by him in the England setup.
