Maguire Dropped To Bench Against Arsenal After Bomb Threat At Home

April 22, (THEWILL) -Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, is expected to be benched for Saturday’s crucial match against Arsenal on “compassionate grounds.” THEWILL recalls that on Thursday, Maguire received a bomb threat at his home, prompting police explosive sniffer dogs to examine the area.

While Maguire is continuing to train as usual in preparation for Saturday’s match, interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has decided to bench the defender to give him some physical and emotional respite.

Without a doubt, the 29-year-old has struggled this season and most fans blame him for United’s poor displays. In their last game on Tuesday, Liverpool hammered United 4-0 with Maguire playing on the left side of an ad-hoc back-three formation.

Rangnick could choose to keep that formation or welcome Raphael Varane back into the team after his injury recovery.

The Red Devils arrive at the Emirates Stadium three points behind Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for a Champions League spot, despite having played one more game than their opponents.

United also have the poorest goal difference of any of the Premier League’s top eight teams, and there is a good chance they will be playing in the Europa Conference League next season if they ever qualify for a European competition at all.
