December 22, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has provided an update on the injury status of key players James Maddison and Michel van de Ven. The summer signings have both been sidelined since November with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
In his press conference ahead of Saturday’s English Premier League clash with Everton, Postecoglou confirmed that neither player is close to returning to first-team training. He stated that if recovery timelines hold, both could be available sometime in January 2024.
Maddison in particular had made a huge impact since his move from Leicester City, helping Spurs go on a 10-match unbeaten run to top the EPL table earlier this season. His creativity and goalscoring have been sorely missed during his absence.
Postecoglou also addressed injuries to fellow midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma. Bentancur tore ankle ligaments recently and is facing a similar return timeline to Maddison and Van de Ven. Bissouma will miss time due to his upcoming Africa Cup of Nations duties with Mali.
On a more positive note, Giovani Lo Celso is back in training and available for selection this weekend. Brennan Johnson is also fit after sustaining a minor head injury last match. Still, Spurs are without Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and several other players.
