September 25, (THEWILL) –
Romelu Lukaku netted his third goal in as many matches for Roma on Sunday, but Duvan Zapata scored his first Torino goal to ensure the points were shared in an entertaining 1-1 draw.
Both sides were missing key players but produced an open game with chances at both ends. Lukaku went close early on before linking up brilliantly with Paulo Dybala, whose shot was blocked by Rodriguez. Zapata threatened for Torino, glancing a header just wide, while Bryan Cristante was unlucky to hit the post for Roma.
Persistence paid off for Lukaku just after the hour mark as he held off his marker to drill in a low shot from 12 yards. It was a trademark finish from the Belgian striker, who has made an impressive start since rejoining Roma.
However, Zapata deservedly levelled for Torino with a diving header from Ilic’s free kick for his first goal since joining. Both keepers made vital late stops as the game remained in the balance until the final whistle.
A point apiece was a fair result between the two attack-minded sides of Jose Mourinho and Ivan Juric. Lukaku continues his hot streak but Zapata’s first Torino goal will delight Granata fans after his summer move.
