Lukaku Double Fires Belgium To Comfortable Luxembourg Warm-Up Win

June 09, (THEWILL) – Romelu Lukaku scored twice as Belgium cruised to a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg in their final Euro 2024 warm-up match on Saturday. The convincing win at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels extended Belgium’s unbeaten run to 14 games since their exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Lukaku broke the deadlock from the penalty spot five minutes before half-time after being brought down in the area. Kevin De Bruyne was the creative spark, playing a key role by splitting the Luxembourg defence on several occasions in the first half. Thomas Meunier’s injury after just 15 minutes was the only blot on Belgium’s copybook before the break.

The Red Devils continued to dominate after the interval. Lukaku tapped home his 85th international goal in the 57th minute after excellent work by Jeremy Doku down the left flank. Just two minutes later, Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris denied Lukaku his hat-trick with a smart save.

With 10 minutes remaining, Leandro Trossard put the icing on the cake, firing home after bringing down a long ball over the top by Wout Faes. The comfortable victory provided the perfect preparation for Belgium, who start their Euro 2024 campaign against Slovakia on June 17.

Luc Holtz’s Luxembourg side have now suffered back-to-back defeats after a run of three wins in four games prior to the double-header against Belgium and France.
